8-12-18 (Sunday) Tennis.

8-12-18 (Sunday) Tennis.

Today was actually not as hot as it had been, but it was still pretty hot.  I missed last Sunday because I had work, so I really wanted to practice more Doubles to prepare for the tournament on the 19th.  After doing the regular drills we got into the matches.  All the matches we've played together in the past month or so, we have bageled all the other teams.  However, today, we lost our first game.  The first service game of our opponent.  Then we went on a run to win four straight games.  We are getting to know each other's style and we are beginning to mesh better.

I had a good stroke practice and a good match practice.  We have only one more day of practice so it is going to have to be a good practice.

In the end, I burned a good 2187 kcals.

8-09-18 (Thursday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Back + Anabolic Stretch + ChaLEAN Extreme - I've Got Abs + TCF.

I sort of have developed the idea that I didn't want to keep the same weight for more than two rounds on certain sets.  So, I wanted to keep that up on this round as well.  So, as you can see on some sets where I raised the weight last round, I kept it this round, and where I kept the same weight previously, I wanted to up the weight this round.  The first Super Set stayed the same, but most of the subsequent sets went up in weight.  The BIG BAD this round was the Deadlift.  As I did it, I felt a little twinge in my lower back a little after completing the light part of the Drop Set.  I was able to finish the routine, but there was some discomfort during the cooldown.

The Stretch, Abs, and Flow Series were a good topper for the routine.  The one-arm weighted oblique move was really tough today, especially keeping it stable at the top.  I had to really push it to keep from smashing my face.

In the end, I burned a good 865 kcals.

8-08-18 (Wednesday) Tennis.

8-08-18 (Wednesday) Tennis.

After a week off, and two weeks away from hard courts, I'm back on my favorite surface... Hard Court.

For the first time since I joined my tennis club, we reserved 3 courts.  I thought it was because record numbers of people were showing up, but tonight that wasn't the case.  Tonight, there were less than 20 people, but we got a 3rd court for people playing in the upcoming tournament to practice on.  At first, the courts were all drilling but after the first drill, Volley/Stroke was finished, the third court was made into a match court.  First, Ladies Doubles.  There is one team signed up to play.  Then Men's Doubles.  There are two teams signed up to play there were represented tonight.  One complete team, and then my partner and I, but my partner was not in attendance tonight so I picked up a different partner.  At first, I picked a very talented Jr. High student as my partner, but we got drubbed, losing 1-4.  I lost my only service game on a deciding point.  But it was a good match because I went for it and I was striking the ball very well, very cleanly for winners.  But I also made some very stupid mistakes.  Twice, I had an easy volley to an open court but junked it into the net.  Then, I chose a Lefty 20-Something Physical Therapist who is more closely matched to my real partner, but not as consistent.  And we drubbed the other team.  We were winning 3-0 and my serve was back at Deuce when it was called time and we had to stop.  But I had come back from a 15-40 deficit so I was confident that we could close it out.  I felt really good about my strokes tonight, but I was a little iffy on my serve.  The lights on the court are good but too low that they get into the eye line so sometimes.  When that happens, the ball flies into the lights and we are momentarily blinded.  So I'm glad we are playing during the day.  Two more sessions for practice and then game day.

Before we started that final match, we were doing Point Sims.  There are some good female players that have recently joined the club, but I still have reservations about hitting stronger shots at them or hitting angle shots to make them run.  I return the ball so they can hit it.  Then sometimes I get caught off guard by a good shot.  I guess I should start hitting harder balls to see if they can take it.

It was a good practice, but I think I need to get more match time in.  I hope I have more opportunity next week.

In the end, I burned a good 1842 kcals.  300 more than the average for a Wednesday session.  YES!!!

8-07-18 (Tuesday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Chest + Anabolic Stretch + ChaLEAN Extreme - I've Got Abs + TCF.

8-07-18 (Tuesday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Chest + Anabolic Stretch + ChaLEAN Extreme - I've Got Abs + TCF.

Today begins the 5th Round of the Bulk Phase of the Body Beast Program.  The color is Neon Pink.  The past couple of weeks I was holding steady with one weight, so this week was time to up the weights a little more.  So I did just that on 16 out of 21, not including the usually non-weighted Multi-Set.  I have been reluctant and nervous to up the Light Sets for fear that the heavier weight would burn me out faster, but I think it actually warmed me up for the heavier sets, so I was happy.  One correction that I have to make is the 5th set on the Progressive Set of Incline Presses.  I have it down as a repeat of last time's weight 12kgs as a "-" notation, but it was actually raised from 12kgs to 14.5kgs.  Everything else was fine.  On the last set of that Progressive Set, the light set at 12kgs, there is an "R" in front of the weight.  That basically means that I needed an extra rest before starting that set.  I went back and did the set rest time twice.  I was toast after that middle set so I took an extra breather.   This was a good routine and I'm happy with my progress and strengthening.  One last additional correction.  On the heavy set of the Combo Set, I was a little nervous to go up on the heavy set.  But I shouldn't have been.  The 12kgs was actually pretty easy because I knocked it out pretty quickly, so I'm adding an "EZ" next to the "-" so I know to go up regardless of my fear.  At the end of the workout, I added that extra move, Calf Raises, to keep them strong.  I don't want any cramping due to weakness when I play tennis.

The Anabolic Stretch was good.  I had to do the wiggle to get the best-loaded stretch, but I got it and the 5 sets of 60-seconds were really hitting the whole chest.

For the Ab routine this round, I chose the toughest routine from ChaLEAN Extreme, "I've Got Abs".  It was especially difficult today because there are four sets of Push-Up variations and my chest and shoulders were already on fire from the resistance workout.  The first two sets were rough going, really pushing hard to get up, but I must have hurdled that barrier because the last two sets of Push-Ups were pretty stable and strong.  I felt stronger at the end than at the beginning.

And luckily, the Flow series was still strong and stable.  No forgetting this time.

In the end, I burned a good 704 kcals.  Again, not too shabby for a focused Chest workout with Abs.

8-06-17 (Monday) HY: P90X2 - X2 Yoga + TCF.

8-06-17 (Monday) HY: P90X2 - X2 Yoga + TCF.

My shoulders were a bit sore and tight and I didn't want to do Shoulders and then Chest on consecutive days, so I decided to go with something I haven't done in a really long time.  I was actually considering doing P90X3's X3 Yoga and P90X2's Recovery and Mobility routine, the one with the Foam Roller and stretching, but ultimately decided to go with the longer Yoga because I'm going to do Yoga with my sister in September so I figure I should get my body familiar with Yoga again before I go.

It started off pretty well, you know, with Mountian Pose.  But my shoulders started to ache with the first Vinyasa and the extra Push-Up.  I really felt the stretch in my shoulders with every Vinyasa moving from Up-Dog to Down-Dog.  But I was able to muscle through the first sequence.  But the first Standing sequence was brutal.  Warrior 3, Half-Moon, Reverse Half-Moon, Standing Splits, etc.  That sequence just totally burned out each leg.  Not to mention the balance issues on the right side.  The left side, to my surprise, was pretty stable.  I didn't come out of the poses anywhere near as much as I did on the Right side.  The next progression with Triangle Pose and the Core Strengthening was all good until the Wrap.  I haven't missed a Wrap hold until today.  I was only able to barely touch my fingertips, and as I was holding it on the Right side, I felt a slight cramping and Twinge coming on so I UN-wrapped.  If felt like my shoulder was about to pop out of joint.  I was actually quite scared that I had damaged my shoulder muscles.  But the very next move, the LOw Runner's Lunge/Stretch actually stretched the exact spot out, and that Kink feeling dissipated and didn't come back.  I felt like I dodged a bullet on that one.  On the Left side, I tried to Wrap for a moment but gave up pretty quick.  I guess I shouldn't have tried that the day after Shoulder Day.  But the rest of the routine went pretty well.  I was happy to get through it.

The Flow went much better today right from the start.  So I did only one Series and that was it.

In the end, I burned an acceptable 406 kcals.  Again, more than expected.  But the Yoga numbers are merely for interest and records sake.  I was able to loosen up a lot today.

8-05-18 (Sunday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Shoulders + Anabolic Stretch + Insanity - Cardio Abs + TCF.

8-05-18 (Sunday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Shoulders + Anabolic Stretch + Insanity - Cardio Abs + TCF.

I was SOOO bummed today that I couldn't go to my regular tennis practice.  I had to work today from mid-morning to mid-afternoon.  So, when I got home, I relaxed a little and then got to my workout.

This is the final routine of Round 4 of the Bulk Phase.  Only two more rounds to go before the final phase.  I really wanted to up the ante on this routine by going up in weight on a few sets, so that is what I did.  I was a little nervous on a few sets, but it turned out to be fine.  Take a look at the worksheet to see all the sets that went up in weight.  There were 23 out of 25 not including the non-weighted last Super Set.  I definitely feel like I'm getting stronger slowly but surely.  Out of those 23 sets I hit the limit on 8 of them.  The toughest set was the last Progressive Set of Reverse Flies.  I pretty much expected to max out on that move because that little group of muscles is in need of more training.  So weak and pathetic.  The biggest surprise move was the Alt. Front Raise.  7.5kgs is huge for me and it was actually kind of easy.  But that last Twist-Twist with the 12.5kgs was absolutely brutal.  Overall, it was a good routine and I'm very satisfied with my performance.

The Anabolic Stretch was good, but I'm still trying to wiggle into positions that will give me the best stretch especially on the Shoulders.

I did the full Cardio Abs today to finish off and I was very happy because I was able to get through all the progressions without any extra breaks.  I reached my Ab goal for this round.  I really crushed it, and I had a little left over as well up until the final progression.  I was feeling those Hip Thrusts in my Abs like nobody's business.

And something really weird happened today.  As I started the Tai Cheng Flow (TCF) I was in my stance, shifted to the right, stepped forward, and then suddenly, out of nowhere, I just didn't know how to connect to the next move.  I restarted several times but got stuck at the same place every time.  I went online to find the full flow but it was nowhere to be found.  I checked youtube and nothing.  Then, just as suddenly as I forgot, I stood up without thinking and smashed through that mind/memory block.  I did a double dose of Flow Series just to solidify them in my head for today.  But that was just weird.  It happens on occasion, though.

In the end, I burned a good 701 kcals.  More than expected, but not up to the usual 2500 I burn with a 4-hour tennis session.  But I'll take it.

8-03-18 (Friday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Legs + Anabolic Stretch + Insanity - Cardio Abs (modified) + TCF.

8-03-18 (Friday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Legs + Anabolic Stretch + Insanity - Cardio Abs (modified) + TCF.

Yes, this is another result of vacation.  No Pickle-Ball today because we played on Monday.  But rather another early afternoon workout.  Normally, after Bulk: Arms, I would do Shoulders, but since it is back to back resistance days, I didn't want to tax my shoulders too much because of doing Arms yesterday.  So, I went with Legs.  Which served to be a good decision.

There were a few moves on which I upped the weights on a few sets, but by and large, I kept the same weight as the previous session.  Check out the Worksheet to see with sets got heavier.  It was a good routine and I set a good pace.  The one disappointment was on the Calf Raises.  My left calf couldn't go all the way to 50 reps.  I had to break at 40 reps.  I wanted to push through it, but the cramping pain hit a bit too hard not to stop.  Other than that, everything was good.

I'm still a bit unstable on the Leg Anabolic Stretch, so I've got each individual sets at 30 seconds.   I think I am doing much better than before.  On a couple sets, I went longer than 30 seconds.

The modified Cardio Abs is the ab workout without the Cardio part.  I had to do it that way because today, I actually did procrastinate a little too long and ran out of time.  Not much else to say except that I went through some of the progressions a little quicker because I wasn't able to do the follow-along.  It was done from memory... which sucked.  But everything else was fine.

In the end, I burned a good 822 kcals.  A little more than I had expected from a Leg workout, but I'll take it!

8-02-18 (Thursday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Arms + Anabolic Stretch + Insanity - Cardio Abs + TCF.

8-02-18 (Thursday) HY: Body Beast - Bulk: Arms + Anabolic Stretch + Insanity - Cardio Abs + TCF.

Normally Thursday is a Morning workout, but it turned into an early afternoon workout because again since I'm on vacation, I can come home a little early.  So, once I got home and relaxed a little, I got right to my workout.  I couldn't procrastinate till the evening like I am prone to do because I still had my night class later in the evening.

I like this routine because it is predictable.  I know what is coming and I know that if the pain is to be had, it is up to me as to how much pain I can subject myself to.  As far as weight is concerned, I decided to stick close to what the limits have been and up when I can.  Check out the worksheet below.  There was no change in the first half of the routine.  But there are some moves that I think I will go up next time on.  Namely, Standing Curl, Wide EZ Bar Curl, and Skull Crusher.  But I still got a good pump and burn from these moves today.  The Progressive Sets are a whole different story.  I still feel like I'm right at the limit with these weights.  So I may need to push a little next time.  Get out of the comfort zone.  I'm confident with the ascending, but the descending is what scares me. 12 and 15 reps is a lot of reps when you are burned out.  On the Weighted Crunch, I was just about at failure with the 10kgs.  But this time I had the weight behind my head.  The positioning of the weight makes a huge difference.  The burn was long and hot.

The Anabolic Stretch for bis and tris was good, but there is a huge difference in the stretch between 2kgs and 3kgs.  I can take the 2kg stretch, but it hurts too much on the joints with the 3kgs.  I need a .5kg weight until I can take the 3kgs.

Cardio Abs is still a tough one.  I can't get through any of the progressions without a mid-set break.  The burn just gets too intense.  Hopefully, I can conquer it by the final workout of this round.

In the end, I burned 578 kcals.  I'm looking forward to the soreness tomorrow.  But I must say that the Anabolic Stretch has helped.

8-01-18 (Wednesday) Tennis.

8-01-18 (Wednesday) Tennis.

There was a lot of "drama" today with regard to where the practice would take place, how many courts were reserved, and how long the practice would last.  Everything was solidified about 90 minutes before the practice was to start, and wouldn't you know it, a ton of people showed up.  The practice was moved to the indoor facility because of rain in the forecast.  Because it was last minute, Only the final hour had two courts.  So the practice was initially only going to be one hour.  I am always a little iffy when it comes to going to such a far venue for only one hour.  But I was a Ball-Person so I basically had to go.  But around 5:30pm there was a message that they were able to get one court from 7pm.  So practice would be the full two hours.  I got there a little after 7pm and there were no balls.  So it was a good thing that I went, because the next basket of balls didn't arrive until about 25 minutes later, so that would have been a huge waste.

I was feeling good today on my strokes.  My volleys started off terribly because I just couldn't see the ball.  The lighting in the indoor facility is really not that good, so I was shanking a lot of the balls.  But after a few minutes, I started getting used to the conditions and started hitting better volleys.  Volleying first really helped me to watch the ball better so when I went to stroke practice, I was zeroed in on the ball and I was striking it very well.  My serve has sort of gone the way of the Dodo Bird.  I get a few in, but I still don't feel totally comfortable with it.  My toss is too inconsistent for me to get into a groove.  I need to just pick a spot and stick with it.  But I seem to sort of loose my head on my serve and I chase the ball, and bad tosses.  I need to just go out and serve a bunch of baskets of balls to find that groove.  Game Sims were also pretty good.  I was still striking the ball well and seeing it better.  The only real negative point for tonight was the high humidity inside.  I was sweating like crazy, and my shoes were sopping wet afterwards.

In the end, I burned a good 1324kcals.  Off by about 200+ kcals from the average.  Probably due to the first hour being only on one court.
