2-18-18 (Sunday) HY: Tennis + Ab EMS.
It was a BEAUTIFUL day! Light clouds in the sky and cool temperatures. A welcome change from the fridged cold of the past few weeks. I didn't need to wear tons of layers, just shorts over spandex and a light windbreaker over a Nike Combat trainer. Nice to not be so puffy with tons of layers. And because of the great weather, I thought there would be a lot of members present, but actually, most of the members that came were the more experienced players, so there were a lot of chances to really hit out. And there weren't as many as I thought would come, so I felt a bit lucky. During the warm-up, I was having some pain in my right forearm, and I realized that my brace was too tight, so after loosening it up a bit, all was well.
Stroke practice was good. I was feeling good and striking the ball well. But the odd thing is that when I am in a hard-hitting rally, I can keep it going, but if I get a "gimmie" ball, or a "sitter" when I have a lot of time to set up, I totally shank it if I try to hit with any power. Those easy balls are supposed to be kill shots not just dink returns. I have to get over that problem and become more consistent all around to raise my game to the next level. My volleying was good, but still too many frame and off sweet spot shots. I need to focus and concentrate more on the ball. For now, it has to be conscious before it can become automatic. My serve was also pretty good. I was getting the ball in without too much trouble. During the match later in the session, I didn't serve a double fault, and I won the match with my partner 4-1 (we play first to win 4 games due to time limitations of the number of people wanting to play matches). Overall, I was about 70% satisfied with my play today. But it was a good practice session.
In the end, I burned almost 1900 kcals. Also, I may need to start bringing the big water bottle. I felt the need to conserve water as the bottle got lighter near the end. After getting home and showering and relaxing a bit, I got my EMS in and worked my abs. Awesome way to start my week.
