6-29-17 (Thursday) Tennis.
I missed tennis on my regular tennis day, but things sort of fell into place so I could play tennis today. It is the 5th Thursday of the month so I don't have my night class so that opened the evening up. Plus, I just got a new racket and I really wanted to play with it. Actually, I got two new rackets and I really wanted to try them out. What happened was I got a new racket so as I was getting ready to go and get it strung, I decided to get my oldest racket re-strung. Even though the strings weren't broken they were old and had lost tension so it was like hitting with a trampoline. So I cut them and brought both rackets. When I went to pick them up, the told me that the old racket was in too bad of a condition that the racket might not hold up with the new strings. Plus, the grommet was a mess and since it was old, they didn't have the necessary model in stock. But they offered me a used racket that was a little newer and in much better condition for only 2500yen. So I said goodbye to my old racket (I still have it, just no strings) and got the new used racket to replace it. Below is my collection of rackets. Actually, it is not a "collection", rather it is my "arsenal". The new racket is the "Stars and Stripes US Open" model. LOVE IT!!!
Anyway, I got to the gym and luckily, everyone was not there and as fate would have it, two members of the regular club did not come today, so there were only six members. That meant I could play a little singles, even just to hit around. The big thing, though, was that the gym was close to 30 degrees. I was dripping sweat after just a couple minutes. Even at dusk, the heat was just there, no circulation in the gym. But we played on. The new racket was Super-Awesome! The feel was great, and I was able to gain control right away. As for match play, I was a little off on my serve. I hit a couple double faults each service game, but I hit double aces or service winners. I was 100% on the night with my service games. My partner and I won the first set 6-1. Luckily, the other pairs played the next game while my partner and I hit some singles. That is when the heat started to get to me. I started to feel dehydrated and weak. But foolishly, I didn't want to be the one to stop the rally. Finally, my partner called for a break and I went and got some water and I took two sodium tablets. That did the trick because when I came back, I was feeling a lot more energized. I was serving a little better this match so I was feeling more confident. We also won this match 6-1. It was a good night.
In the end, I torched over 1500kcals. Probably helped by the heat in the gym, but it was a good burn.
