7-13-17 (Thursday) HY: ChaLEAN Extreme - Burn Intervals + Extreme Abs.
Today is my final resistance day for the week, but despite taking a mid-week recovery day yesterday I was still feeling really sore from the Complex routines and the double cardio, so I went with a different kind of resistance. I went with what Chalene called "Endurance Resistance". I've said before that I love the routines that combine Resistance and Cardio so I was looking forward to this workout. I started up right when I got home because I was in the same time crunch as usual on Thursdays. I've got to sneak my workout in between classes.
No workout sheet for today's resistance/cardio routine. Basically, I used only one set of dumbbells, my 4kgs. I've always had a tough time with these so I usually had my 3kgs standing by. Not today, I was feeling pretty good, strength-wise, so I was going to stick with the 4's all the way through. Usually, I have to tap out of a few of the resistance moves because of the burn. Today, I think I performed the best I've done in a while with this routine. I only needed to tap out of one move, my nemesis move on this routine. But on the positive side, I only needed to tap out once. Usually, I tap out multiple times because the burn is just too much. That move is the dumbbell move that works the triceps. I made it through the Kickbacks and the regular Overhead Triceps Extensions, but when she transitioned to the slow count Extensions, my triceps were just on FIRE!!! I had to tap out and shake them out. But I was able to gut through the last two transitions. BURN BURN BURN!!! As for the cardio moves, the first third of the routine was good, but from the second 15-minute part began, I was just getting winded really easily and I needed to take little extra break times to recover after the more rigorous moves. Usually, I can do the cardio moves with no trouble, but today, I was struggling. The Burpees today were particularly tough, I almost didn't make it to the last rep. And pretty much all the resistance band moves killed my adductors and glutes. The kickboxing moves were the ones that brought out the fun in the workout for me. But they were even difficult for me. I just pretty much struggled for the last two-thirds of the routine. I think it was, again, the heat that had an effect on me. I just sweat so much and so worn in the heat. The muscle fatigue hits a lot quicker than when it is not too hot or humid. So, I'm going to have to gut out at least another two to three months of workouts in these conditions. BRING IT!!!
Since Extreme Abs is on the same disk, I just went with it. It was a lot tougher than the last time I remember doing it. I just about hit failure by the last rep on all the moves from the Punching Sit-Ups to the Side-Plank Hip Raises. I got a good core burn as expected.
In the end, I torched right around 850kcals. Not bad for a shorter workout. But I need to recover faster. Looking forward to my off day.
