7-17-17 (Monday) HY: Tennis + UYHF.
Today was a national holiday, but I had to work because my school had a recruiting event. BUMMER! I was thinking how I could follow last weeks Monday Double Cardio routine day today. I was considering going for another double routine, but to be honest, I was exhausted after that so I wasn't really relishing the thought of doing it again. Then about an hour before I headed home, I got a message from my wife saying she reserved a tennis court for us to play in the evening. My dilemma was over, the decision was made. When I got up this morning, my body had a medium soreness all over, but some intense soreness in my front hip flexors. I knew exactly why. P90X - Ab Ripper X. Yesterday I did Ab Ripper X for the first time in several months and I wanted to step up my ab work, but I had forgotten how tough, with all the leg lifts and lower body lifts it was on the hip flexors. Just raising my leg to walk up stairs was tough. I pretty much had soreness and pain there all day. I am sure it had an affect on my tennis.
We got there early and luckily the court we got was free so we were able to start early, and since we were in the last slot of the day we were able to go over time too. So we got in a lot of extra play time. But there was one big problem, I was feeling so heavy and I just couldn't get my feet going. My movement around the court was extremely sluggish. I made some shots, but I just didn't ease into the session. But I tried to stay focused and consciously got my feet moving. When I play my wife it is not about winning, it is about controlling the ball back to her so she can make me run. And she did that well. But I was just gassing out way too quickly today. On top of that, my serve was way off. I can't really go for it when I play my wife, so control is everything. It ended up being a good session. Another thing, it wasn't that hot that late in the day, but the humidity! Woo Wee! It was swimming in sweat and the air was so heavy. But we still had fun.
Later in the evening, I did the Unlock Your Hip Flexors routine because the pain was getting tough to take, so I spend close to an hour just stretching out my hip flexors mainly, but calves, quads, and hamstrings. It felt much better afterward.
In the end, I torched a nice 786kcals. We played for almost two hours but like I said, movement was sluggish. More tennis to come this week. So hopefully I can improve on today's performance.
