8-28-15 HY: P90X-Kempo X + 10 Min. Tr.-Abs + Splits + TCF.

Today, I knew I was going to be staying in all day because of the weather and because there was nothing planned.  During one of my daughter's breaks, we took advantage of a break in the rain and tossed around the old Pig Skin.  It was actually a rubber Nerf football, but it was a lot of fun, and I got a good sweat on from it.  My daughter is becoming a good little quarterback, I must say.  We live on a slope and I was running routes uphill and she was hitting me on those routes.  A lot of fun! I really miss playing pick-up games with friends.  People here just don't play football.  I could probably add 200+kcals to the burn total.

This routine always gets my legs to a near-cramping level.  I guess weighted squats and weighted lunges just work the legs in a different way than all those different kicks do.  Today was no different. Got a great workout. Got a huge sweat on. Burned a ton of calories.  I also was really trying to focus on the flexing of my core during all that twisting on the kicks and punches.  Got a nice core burn from just those moves.  I was thinking that if the burn was hot enough I wouldn't do an ab routine next.  I did get a great burn, but I still felt the need for an additional ab workout.  I was also trying to be very aware of my knee to protect it.  With martial arts workouts like this and TAEBO, I have hurt my knees before just being loose with landing when lunging forward for a jab and twisting for a cross.  I really tried not to over twist my knees today.  Knees felt really good following the workout.  Finally, I really wanted to raise the intensity on each move, so I went full martial arts fighting mode and didn't pull any punches.  I went for each punch and kick inputting as much power into the move as possible all the while being careful not to over extend. Tip of the Day!  Had a lot of sprinkler action... AGAIN!!!

I went right into the ab routine and got an awesome burn.  This routine also really works the shoulders because of all the plank moves right in the middle.  I had to tap out a couple times and revert to Child's Pose, but I got right back into it.

Splits and Flow were sketch perfect.  Had some balance issues during the Flow because my legs were a bit wobbly but I kept it in check.

In the end, I torched just under 800kcals.  Great way to close out the week!

8-27-15 HY: P90X-Core Synergistics + Splits + TCF.

8-27-15 HY: P90X-Core Synergistics + Splits + TCF.

Hard core as hard core gets! After this one, there was on way I was doing an AB workout.  I normally would do one but no need today.  I was dying at different points during the routine from the core burn.  Again, it has been almost a year or more since I did this routine last and I pushed it hard. I did the "Superman/Banana" with my daughter and we were both dying and screaming out in pain at the end.  But it was fun rolling around on the floor together.  One thing that I noticed and was VERY happy with was when I did the "Bow to Boat" move.  I was able to actually grab my ankles with ease when going into Bow! Usually I would take time to hook the back of my shoes and barely get my thighs off the ground, but  today, I just went right to it.  I was like, "WHOA! What did I just do?!"  It really has been "NEVER" since I did bow that easily.  A first for me!

My core was fried so I went right into the splits and Flow.  Had a good time with them as well.

In the end, I torched over 720kcals.  Good number for me today.

Oh, before my workout, I did about 2.5 hours of yard work. Cleaning up after the typhoon stuff and cutting the grass.  I moved right into my workout after that.  Then right after my workout, I went out shopping with my ladies (wife and daughter) for over 3 hours.  I think I at least burned an additional 400-500kcals with all those extra activities.  I'm teaching a night class tonight so I've got to get ready for that as well. FUN! and BUSY day!!

8-26-15 HY: Insanity-Cardio Recovery + Splits + TCF.

8-26-15 HY: Insanity-Cardio Recovery + Splits + TCF.

Got to love the mid-week recovery day.  It is a nice addition to my hybrid that has really helped with motivation.  Doing 6 hard and strenuous routines a week can wear on me, so I added the mid-week recovery day and now, the 3-2 split is easy-peasy! And a lot more for my motivation at the end of a busy week.

Today, I was looking forward to getting back to the Insanity recovery.  It was slow and nice.  But the leg work sneaked up on me.  Those lunge and squat pulses gave me a good burn in the legs.  But the stretch moves helped a lot with getting loose for the splits.  A lot of good plank work as well to keep the shoulders and core alive.  Actually felt energized after the routine.

I moved right into the splits and was able to push lower.  Felt really good today.  The Flow also really felt smooth.  Went with the slow form and although I lost a little balance at times, I was able to stabilize and keep it going.

In the end, I burned over 400kcals.  Pretty good for a recovery day.

8-25-15 HY: P90X-Back & Biceps + ChaLEAN Extreme-Extreme Abs + Splits + TCF.

8-25-15 HY: P90X-Back & Biceps + ChaLEAN Extreme-Extreme Abs + Splits + TCF.

Being on vacation is making me a bit lazy.  I've been sleeping late, getting up late (Still getting 7+ hours of sleep), and procrastinating on my workouts.  Still getting them in everyday, but later than is possible.  I'm eating and drinking well.  My wife commented, "Are you loosing weight?" then gesturing around my neck and face.  I wish she gestured around my belly.  But I'm happy because I usually don't eat very well during vacations.  One hurdle is my trip back to the USA in September.  I have to keep up my workouts, drinking and eating well.  But I already know that I'm going to be eating more than normal during my time there, and most likely eating not the best things as well.  So I'll need to stay on top of that.

Today was the usual vacation routine.  I finally got to my workout in the late afternoon.  I needed to get some pull ups in so I went with this routine.  This is the last resistance routine with pull ups.

I decided to not use the assist bands today, but I was prepared for the lower rep count.  My goal was 8 reps over the six moves.  The two back and two bicep circuit was tough.  The first two cycles were okay, but entering the third cycle with the Corn Cob Pull Ups, I had to use the assist with it.  In fact, I have never done more than just a few true Corn Cob Pull Ups.  They are just too tough at the moment.  But from the third cycle on, I needed to slow down a bit and focus on my form. During the Static Arm Curls, I needed to take a break between passes, and on the last set, my left arm faded fast on the static hold.  Just couldn't keep it up the whole time.  I started off with 17kgs for the back moves and 10kgs for the bicep moves.  I was able to keep the 17kgs for all the back moves except for the Seated Bent-Over Back Flys during which I used 12.5kgs.  But for the bicep moves, I kept 10kgs for half the routine, but in the second half, I dropped down to 8.75kgs.  I went back to 10kgs for the Hammer Curls, and started with 10kgs for the final move, the Strip-Set Curls during which I did 5 sets of 8 instead of 4, starting at 10kgs, the dropping 1.25kgs each set to 5kgs.  I really got an awesome pump and burn during this workout.

Since I did Ab Burner on Sunday, Extreme Abs today.  This was my mid-level ab workout.  Since I'm back to the pull up bar, I might use the PLUS abs on Thursday.   But today, was another great CORE BURN!!!

Went right into the Splits and Flow.  I pushed the splits today, and got low, passed my mark.  I'm starting to get up faster, under 10 seconds.  When I started out, it would take me over 10 seconds to stand.  The Flow was also good during all the speeds.  But for some reason, my breathing was a bit shallow during the fast run.  I'm usually in better control than that.  But I may have been a little more tired that I actually felt.

In the end, I torched a solid 950+kcals.  Keeping it going!!!

8-24-15 HY: Insanity-Cardio Power & Resistance + Splits + TCF.

8-24-15 HY: Insanity-Cardio Power & Resistance + Splits + TCF.

Pretty sore from yesterday's resistance. I was a little apprehensive about doing this routine because of the "resistance" part of it.  But I was able to hang with all the sets of push ups.  This is still phase one of Insanity so the routines are still pretty short.  Thank Goodness!  Any longer and I would have died.  The first circuit went well.  I was able to hang for all three rounds without an extra break.  But the last round with the extra moves was extra tough.  I did have to take a break after the first part of the Tricep dips.  My Tri's are still a bit tender.  The second circuit which is three rounds, I had to turn it into 6 rounds.  I needed to take a break before the Moving Push Ups and Mountain Climbers.  I was just too winded to continue after the Jump Knee Tucks and Belt Kicks.  But it was hard core cardio.  Sweat was also flying all over the place!  Another chance for some sprinkler action.

I went right into the Splits and Flow.  It was a good session and I was able to push a bit past the mark.  I had a good Flow also.  I tried to work on controlling my stance because I've been over stepping recently.  It went well, and I had good runs on the moderate and slow Flows.

In the end, I torched over 800kcals.  Another good number!

8-23-15 HY: P90X - Chest, Shoulders & Triceps + ChaLEAN Extreme - Ab Burner + Splits + TCF + Tennis.

8-23-15 HY: P90X - Chest, Shoulders & Triceps + ChaLEAN Extreme - Ab Burner + Splits + TCF + Tennis.
It was a good day with a lot of activity. And in the end, got a huge burn.
Started off with resistance. A lot of variations of push ups, presses, lateral and side raises for shoulders, and a lot of concentrated tricep work. The funny thing is, it seems like a lot of the other moves that were targeting other muscle groups actually also hit my triceps, too. For example, right at the beginning, moves 3-5 Chair Dips, Plange Push-ups, and Pike Presses all nailed my triceps. Moves like Y-Presses, targeted my shoulders, but I came down slowly so my triceps were used a lot. An interesting thing also is that I was able to nail out 25 Side Tri-Rises with Shoulders & Arms at the end of the routine, but today near the beginning of the routine, I died at 15. I can't understand it. Also, the Clap Push-Ups near the end almost killed me. My hands always rub on the floor when coming together. Today is the first time I did it on my mat which has tiny bumps on it. Talk about BURN! That friction burn really gets HOT!!! All in all, it was a great workout.
I planned to keep the step up plan for my ab workouts. 3x a week building in intensity. Today was step one, but today's routine is always tough even though it is short. It always gives me a good burn, and it is just intense enough to make me want to quit, but sort enough to keep me going for those last few reps to make it to the end. Love it!
Went right into the Splits and Flow. Both were good. Coming off an off day, the splits were good, but wasn't able to push lower. I did get back to my mark which will serve as my starting point for the week. From tomorrow, I'll push past the mark as far as possible. The Flow was good, and I practiced all three speeds to get into a groove. Felt good today.
In the end, I torched a solid 900+kcals. Awesome way to start off the week!!!
Then my son said, "Can we play tennis?" How can I say "no" to tennis, or my son? So, even though I was burned out, I was feeling energetic enough so I said, "Sure!" I was happy to do an upper body resistance routine today because my legs were still sore. I mean climbing stairs is better, but I still feel the pull in my inner thighs with each step. So tennis with a tired chest, shoulders, triceps and legs, not the best situation, but the splits stretch and Flow were really good so I was able to move. Timing on a lot of shots was just a bit late, but I was also able to hit some good shots. Had a great time playing and torched over 1000kcals.
What a great day!!!

8-21-15 HY: P90X-Cardio X + Hip Hop Abs-Last Minute Abs + Splits + TCF.

8-21-15 HY: P90X-Cardio X + Hip Hop Abs-Last Minute Abs + Splits + TCF.

I am not in as much agony as I thought I would be after Legs & Back.  Also, the soreness is not in my legs, as much as in my glutes and inner thighs right under my glutes. Standing up from the sitting position is painful, but in a good way.  I was wondering what routine I could do today, and I went with Cardio X.

The yoga at the beginning was nice.  The runners pose was really tough at first, but after warming up, I was able to get down.  The "Warrior" poses were a good stretch on my sore areas as well.  I was able to keep up with Tony and crew for the whole routine.  I was dying with the 30 Squat reaches. Going low was extremely difficult.  Pain died down a bit around the 25th rep.  But it was a great workout.

I felt good, so even though it wasn't a scheduled ab day, I wanted to add a little abs so I did a little hip hop abs.  I had to really focus on the 3 T's especially trying to tighten my abs. So I had a good quick ab workout.

The Splits and Flow were really good.  It was again really good to stretch out those sore muscles around my hip flexors.  But it was painful to get back down to my mark.  Today, I went for the slow Flow instead of fast.  I had a better run than when I tried to go fast.

In the end, I torched a good 721kcals.  Nice way to enter the weekend!

8-20-15 HY: P90X- Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X + Splits + TCF.

8-20-15 HY: P90X- Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X + Splits + TCF.

This is my NEMESIS routine in P90X. I always die during this routine.  For that reason, I consciously decided not to use heavy weights and I went down considerably from the last time I did this routine according to my worksheets. On all the weighted moves, I used to have 20kgs, but I went way down to only 6kgs.  Except for the Calf Raises, I had 24kgs, down from 22kgs.  And I still died!  As for the pull ups, I still used the assist band and held the reps down to only 10 for the first half and then 12 for the second half.  But on the very last set of pull ups (Switch Grip), I did the 12 reps with no assist.  If felt good, but I barely got up on the last two reps.  I needed to kip a bit to get my chin over the bar.  Although I was able to do all the moves, after the 8th move, the Weighted Lateral Lunge, my inner thigh muscles started to cramp up.  So I had to walk around a bit and stretch a bit so prevent the cramp from total disabling me from continuing.  It was a bit scary when that sensation came on, when you feel the muscles starting to pull involuntarily.  I had to start moving and loosening up.  For the rest of the routine, I was a bit nervous about a full blown cramp hitting me.  But luckily, I fended that off.  But the results are what I sort of expected.  At the end, my legs were just shaking like a leaf.  Climbing stairs was tough.  I could feel each muscle in my upper legs just flexing and pulling.  I know I'm going to feel it tomorrow.  I feel it now and I'm only 5 hours removed from my workout.

I wasn't intending to do Ab Ripper X, but it started up so quickly after the end of the resistance routine, I felt good, so I figured I might as well just go for it.  I was able to keep up, but on the Oblique V-Ups, my inner thigh muscle on the lower leg was really starting to cramp up.  Especially on the left side, my left leg was on the verge of cramping, but I got to the final rep first so I was glad.  I challenged my daughter to do Mason Twist with me and she accepted.  She killed it.  I made it through all 50 reps, but while I was one my face doubled over and groaning, my daughter was looking at me like, WHY???  She went on to show me an extra 40 reps.  SHOW OFF!!!  But she has the Six Pack I'm going for. LOL!

I was a little scared of doing the splits because of the cramping sensation especially in my inner thighs, but I figured it would be more beneficial than detrimental to my muscles that I stretch extra.  NAILED IT!  The stretch really felt good, and I think I legs loosened up a lot.  I no longer felt cramping coming on, but I did feel a sore flex when walking and especially climbing stairs.  But I was able to again, push lower!

I was planning to keep my program and go for a fast sub-60 second both side Flow, but the movement of my legs was a lot more painful/sore than usual, so today, I kept the Flow at a moderate speed.  Still really tough.

In the end, I torched just over 1000kcals.  Great workout!!!

8-19-15 HY: P90X-X Stretch + Splits + TCF.

8-19-15 HY: P90X-X Stretch + Splits + TCF.

Today was my mid-week semi-break day. 2 of the last 3 days consisted of the tough resistance workouts that will get my strength back to where I would like it to be.  Both were upper body routines so my arms especially are sore.  So, I decided to go with my regular schedule and put in a recovery day.  Boy, did I need it!

This is the only routine in my library that I, to this date, have never done in its entirety.  When I did P90X before I always skipped Yoga X and X Stretch opting for something outside cardio, cycling or tennis.  So I had planned to do this routine when I began P90X last week.

At the beginning, I thought it would be a toned down yoga routine because it started with a Vinyasa. But then, it got into the stretches.  I really liked how it progressed from the head to the feet.  All the upper body stretches I had seen before, but it was nice to just take my time with each stretch, breath, and push. The Dreya forearm stretch was new.  I thought it was nothing at the start, but just a few seconds into the first round, my forearms were really feeling it almost to the point of cramping. And that doesn't happen to much to my forearms.  But it is something I definitely need, especially as a tennis player.  The other new stretch was the calf and shin stretch.  I was VERY happy with my balance.  I was extremely strong and stable.  Not as much as a flinch while doing the move on both legs.  I still am so far from doing a good Plow it's pitiful. But despite that, I'm feeling GOOD with this stretch.

I was considering not doing splits today because of the big stretch earlier, but I thought that I didn't actually stretch my inner thighs that much so Splits were still part of the day's menu.  So, I got to it.  It didn't take much to get low though.  And YES! It hit my lowest point EVER today. Thanks in no small part to the hour long stretch I'm sure!I was like, "Whoa! I'm that Low!!!"  And it didn't even hurt that much, but I could feel the pressure on my knees, so I didn't push for lower.

The Flow was fast and smooth.  I did several passes to smooth out any rough edges.  But I am very happy with the Flow.

In the end, as expected, very low calorie burn, only 250kcals burned, but It was a great day.

8-18-15 HY: P90X-Shoulders & Arms + RevAbs-Merciless Abs + Splits + TCF.

8-18-15 HY: P90X-Shoulders & Arms + RevAbs-Merciless Abs + Splits + TCF.

This is the big workout in P90X, 30 moves! Actually 15 moves x2.  Shoulders, Bi's, Tri's and repeat 10 times!  Needless to say, I got a huge pump and burn.  Totally fried out my biceps. Burned out my shoulders, I babied my triceps a bit because since Monday, they have been quite sore.  But it seems like they hit their second wind, and I was actually able to go up in weight on the last move of the regular program.  But I felt the FLEX like nobody's business.  I added almost 25 minutes to the routine because I had to do a lot of messing with weights, moving plates, etc.  This is the program that is going to motivate me to get one more set of dumbbells so I have have three different weights on hand.  But this is one routine that I really like.  It's the GLAMOUR routine!

Again, instead of Ab Ripper, I went with RevAbs, and I died. Brett keeps stressing to flex both ways at a slower pace than Ab Ripper and that is so tough.  Got a great Burn in the abs as ordered.

Again, I added time to the moves and I think I actually saw some progress with them. I am getting lower and I feel I'm off the plateau.  I'm able to push lower in little spurts each session.  Very happy about that.

The Flow was good.  I am pushing the speed and fluidity now, trying to speed through the Flow with good form.  I'm getting there.  Now that the moves are a little more automatic, I can concentrate on form, foot placement, stance, etc.

In the end, I torched another solid 800+kcals.  Good workout!

8-17-15 HY: Insanity-Plyometric Cardio Circuit + Splits + TCF.

8-17-15 HY: Insanity-Plyometric Cardio Circuit + Splits + TCF.

It has been over a year since I did the Insanity program.  I've done routines here and there, but it has sort of sat on the back burner since the shorter routine programs came out, along with Asylum.  But I have dubbed this session of the Hybrid Old School so I'm going back to P90X and Insanity.  The two programs that started me on the Beachbody journey.

Today's routine was supposed to be the easy one.  Intense, but easy. NO WAY!!!  I knew the warm up was going to be tough, so I had to really grit it out to get through the warm up.  I also started to sweat right when Shaun T noticed himself starting to sweat.  I figured that was a good sign. HA!  Nice long stretch and off we went.  The first circuit was good.  I lasted all three rounds without too much trouble and no extra breaks.  But I knew the second circuit was a lot tougher.  In hind sight, that was an understatement. Starting with Basketball drills, the plyo kicked into high gear. Level One Drills were hard, mainly because my arms were still rather sore from yesterdays resistance.  Especially my triceps for some reason.  But I gutted it out and got through.  But when Shaun T started the Ski Abs, I had to take a break.  For all three rounds of the second circuit, I HAD TO take a break before Ski Abs, AND In and Outs.  Just a quick breather, but that little break was necessary.  I took a little break before the Level One Drills in the third round as well.  It was a TOUGH routine, but it energized my mind.  My body was dead, but I felt great in my head.

It was nice to do the Splits stretch and Flow.  Again, I took some extra time to push the Splits harder.  I'm feeling the need to step up the training so since I have the time, I'm adding time to each move and soon, I'll add a whole extra round.  I'm still on the quest to do a fast and smooth Flow under 1 minute for both sides, and I was close today.  Just about a second over.  I'm almost there.

In the end, I torched a solid 830+Kcals!  That is a good number for me!

8-16-15 HY:P90X-Chest and Back + RevAbs-Mercy Abs + Splits + TCF.

8-16-15 HY:P90X-Chest and Back + RevAbs-Mercy Abs + Splits + TCF.

Shoulder rehab kicked into high gear with today's workout.  This is the first full on routine with pull ups I've done in over 2 months.  As expected, I did lose strength, but that is what the rehab is for.  I haven't done this routine in a very long time, but all 12 moves were basic and easy to do. I kept the reps in a reasonable range for the first round, and tried to match it in the second.  I seem to lose strength really quickly if I don't do resistance training regularly.  Only one workout last week amid all the tennis.

Pull ups! Oh, how I've missed thee!!!  I didn't go full bore today, I used the resistance band assist on all the sets and only did 10 reps per set.  The first round went pretty easily, but the second round, I really had to struggle on the last 3-4 reps.  Had to come off the bar during the chin ups, and barely eked out the last 2 reps.  But the best thing is that there was no pain in my shoulder.  There was some soreness after the workout, but not during.  But before my injury, I was able to do several sets of 20 reps with no assist.  That is what I want to get back to... and more.

I lost some push up strength as well.  Again, I followed the tip of the day and paced myself in the first round.  My numbers were about the same as the guy on Tony's team that looks like Jon Hamm, but with no extra leg raises or anything like that.  Just straight form.  OMG!!!! The pump I got during this workout was incredible. My upper body felt hard and huge.  I pump and burn I haven't had in a long while.  I was able to keep up with Tony and the crew for most of the first round, need some extra breather time on the last couple moves, and on about the last four moves in the second round.  But it was great to get back into the serious weights again.

I had already decided not to do Ab Ripper X and do Mercy Abs instead because the pump and burn are different.  That pump and burn, I personally feel, matches the pump and burn I get from the resistance workout.  The slow reps and the concentration on good breathing really complimented the previous routine.  Got what I asked for, a great burn and failure at the end.  And a long lasting pump and burn even after the routine ended.

Went right into the Splits.  This weekend is the first time since January 1 that I had 2 days in a row with no splits.  And I swear, it will be the last.  I was totally intending to do them on Saturday night, but all that stuff with the Volcano eruption warning, and preparing evacuation and survival supplies, I just didn't get to them.  So I took some extra time on them today and it actually felt good.  The Flow also, it felt good.  I tried to kick it up a notch and really Flow fast, and it was really good.  It felt natural and smooth.  The video I posted the other day, I noticed while watching it, that it is quite jerky.  A lot of stopping and locking... no popping. hehehe... But if I get the chance, I will video it again at two different speeds, slow and fast.

In the end, I torched just under 1000kcals during today's workout.  Great way for me to start the week.

8-14-15 HY: Tennis + TCF.

8-14-15 HY: Tennis + TCF.

My plans changed because my son was able to get out of school early so instead of doing my first P90X weights routine, I played tennis.

It was a weird day. Right from my eyes opening in the morning, I just felt off center. I was not in the best of moods, and my whole body just felt heavy.  In hindsight, I think it was a good thing that I didn't do the weights routine because I might have hurt myself with the way I was feeling.  Just so out of sorts.  I think it was connected to the weather with atmospheric pressure far from normal because of a high pressure system moving over us.

Tennis was terrible.  I couldn't get my groove.  I couldn't get myself out of that funk, I was late on almost all my strokes, my serves was just not going in... Need I go on?  The one good thing was after we finished playing, we played with my son's iPhone 6's camera and shot our serves in slo-mo mode. He also shot my Flow.  Considering posting it here.  We got a good laugh from some of the things we discovered about his serve.

Flow was good.  But I must have been a bit nervous with the camera on me because I was messing up and losing my place.  My orientation was also askew.  I finally got it right and he shot a good flow.  But I was still over stepping on my stances.

In the end, even though my performance was terrible, just trying to get on track was a good workout.  I torched over 1000kcals.  Nice way to ease into the weekend.

8-13-15 HY: P90X-Plyometrics + Splits + TCF.

8-13-15 HY: P90X-Plyometrics + Splits + TCF.

Back to weights yesterday so that means today is a cardio day.  Since I'm going back to do P90X, is there a better way to get back into the program than with PlyoX?  I know the routine well having done it several times in years gone by.  But I was ready to kill it today so I took the intense route and jumped a little higher than usual, and did the extreme a little longer than usual.  Legs were burning, Lungs were pumping, Blood was flowing.  I took advantage of all the breaks, got water every chance I got, and paid close attention to the clock so as not to over run the time.  Such a great cardio workout!  My legs were really feeling it along with the rest of my body.  Killed It!!!

Went right into the splits then Flow.  Had a great session and going low and smooth.

In the end, I torched a good 900+kcals!

8-12-15 HY: ChaLEAN Extreme-Lean Circuit 3 + P90X-Ab Ripper X + Splits + TCF.

8-12-15 HY: ChaLEAN Extreme-Lean Circuit 3 + P90X-Ab Ripper X + Splits + TCF.

Tennis plans were messed up due to inclement weather. So, it was back to the normal workouts and routines.

I had one left-over routine on the Lean Circuit so I did it to round out my worksheet. Now I'm all caught up.  Target muscles today were Chest and Shoulders, secondary targets were legs, back and core.  Compared to the last time I did this routine which was a little over a week ago, I was able to maintain the weights at one level instead of lowering them as the routine progressed.  I was very happy about that.  Last time, with the shoulder moves, I started at 14.5kgs, the stepped down in increments of 1.25kgs.   Today, I kept it at 14.5kgs all through out.  Also, on the chest fly moves, I kept the weights at 17kgs for both moves.  At one point I thought I failed, but I realized that my right arm was too straight, so no failure, just bad form.  One slightly different thing I'm doing is on the Breakdown, I am doing the original move instead of doing half the composite original move.  For example, the second move is a Step Back Lunge with a Single arm Arnold Press.  The Breakdown is just he Arnold Press, but I kept in the Step Back Lunge.  It was nice to do the shoulder moves with almost no pain in my injured shoulder, or previously injured shoulder.  It is still sore from tennis, but not an injury pain, just a rehab pain which is expected.  Great workout! Happy to get back to the weights and not have a huge drop in my strength glaring out at me.

I wanted to keep it intense, so I went with Ab Ripper X.  The original KILLER AB routine.  The first 10 moves are fine.  I can do them at Tony's pace.  But the previous 2-3 times, I die out during the Mason Twist.  I was determined to make it to the end including the 10 bonus reps, so I pushed through.  Oh the PAIN and AGONY!  But I finished the whole routine in one sitting, no wimping out!  But at the end, I was doubling over on the ground and GROANING!!! Burn Burn BURN!!!

I feel the splits getting lower a millimeter at a time. I continue to allow my body weight to push my lower, but on the side splits, my hip flexor is a little tender, perhaps from the jarring tennis moves, but I have to work through that extra pain now, too.  The Flow was good.  I was planning to record it for the group today, but it didn't workout because of the rain.  But hopefully soon!

In the end, I torched over 800kcals during my workout.  And as I write this, I'm still feeling the burn and pump in my shoulders.  I'm sure my chest will feel it tomorrow as well.

8-11-15 HY:Tennis + TCF + Splits.

Another good tennis day.  Only my son and I today.  Pushed it to get my groove, but still have a way to go.  We both hit some good shots, but still too many unforced errors.

After the game, I tried to record my Flow, but it was too dark, so I'm not planning to post it.  Hopefully I can get it recorded in better light.

Later in the evening, I did my splits and had some pain in some unexpected areas.  Like my right shin.  I am putting some pressure on it.  I need to roll it out.  I think I'll do it before I head off to bed.

In the end, after tennis, I torched over 1100kcals.  Big week this week, but I'm going to have to do some resistance training this week.  My left arm needs some extra work as well to keep balanced.

8-10-15 HY: Tennis + Splits + TCF.

Another day for tennis.  But had a lot less time today plus, three of us went to play together so that took a little of the movement out of it for me.  I few times I play one on one with each child, but I was teamed with my daughter for more than half the time so I was helping her with her game more so I was coaching more than playing.  But I still got a good workout.  At the end of the session, I had torched 860kcals.  Still a good days work.

Again, in the evening, I struggled to do splits.  My legs are still getting used to the tennis movement so lower body is still sore and tired. As is with my right shoulder and arm.  I need to do some left arm workout to balance out the tennis.  My right shoulder is sore, but it is not injury pain, but the good kind of pain.

Not only was it a good workout, but a great time with my kiddo's!  That's the best thing for me!

I was planning to start another round of ChaLEAN Extreme or Start P90X but the summer schedule has set in for the next week and a half for my son so he wants to play a lot of tennis, so for the next week or so, that will be my main source of exercise when we can fit it into his study schedule.  Plus, the source of my shoulder injury was doing a lot of weights then going for it with tennis soon after so I don't was a replay of that again, so I'm sticking with one main thing at a time.

It was a hot and sunny afternoon when we started playing.  Not wanting a repeat of the last time we played tennis when I crashed, I was very careful to plan my eating schedule so I would have optimum energy for the game. Worked like a charm.  We both played hard, and the sweat was pouring off of us. About half way through our game, my daughter showed up and wanted to play as well.  So we paused our game and I played with her while my son practiced his serve.  Got a lot of running in.

By the end of our games, I had torched over 1700kcals.  I'd say that was a good days work.

Later that evening, my legs were aching but I wanted to get my stretch and Flow in so I took a deep breath and went for it.  My knees were I bit gimpy from the tennis, but I pushed as hard as I could.  The Flow as good, but my legs were shaky and I didn't want to push the stance too hard for my knees.

All in all, it was a good day!

8-7-15 HY: ChaLEAN Extreme-Lean Circuit 2 + Insanity-Cardio Abs + Splits + TCF.

8-7-15 HY: ChaLEAN Extreme-Lean Circuit 2 + Insanity-Cardio Abs + Splits + TCF.

First official day of vacation for me.  I slept in until almost 11am.  Nice to catch up on some sleep. I felt rested and refreshed when I woke up.  It sort of messed with my eating schedule, but it all workout in the end.  Had a large breakfast, or medium brunch, then around 5pm, I had a shake, and dinner at 7pm.  With the heat bearing down on us for the last couple weeks, I have been drinking well over a gallon of water a day.  Lots of water = lots of sweat!

Today's routine finished out a full circuit of ChaLEAN Extreme!  Target muscles, Shoulders, Upper Back and legs.  But I think I went a bit too heavy on some of the lateral lifts.  10kgs quickly got heavy after the first half of the set, then I started to speed up a bit.  I also couldn't hold the weight at the top.  I wasn't jerking the weight up, but it was a bit faster than Chalene's pace.  I finally started to lower the weight in 1.25kg increments for the last two moves. Ending at 7.5kgs.  Almost failing on the 12th rep.  But I did raise the weights for the rows.  I started out at 14.5kgs, but went up to 19.5kgs for the final two row moves.  That was perfect because I could NOT go past 12 reps for sure.  Super pump and burn!

I was feeling a bit energized so I went with Shaun T.  The moves are easy, but if I don't wimp out, they really task my core.  However, today, I was interrupted so I did the routine in two parts. But I still got a killer burn.  I was happy that I lasted all four sets on the last move.  Seems so easy at first, but by the end of the second set, I'm like, "WHAT?? Only half way done??"  Got a great calorie burn boost by the quick cardio at the beginning.

Went right into Splits and Flow.  Finally a normal day for these parts.  It was a bit unorthodox the past couple of days due to a weird schedule and odd locations.  Everything was good and on point.  Pushing hard and moving fast and smooth.  Great way to Flow into the weekend.

In the end, I torched a good 960+kcals.  HAPPY WEEKEND, Everyone!

8-6-15 HY: Tennis + Splits + TCF.

8-6-15 HY: Tennis + Splits + TCF.

Once my son asked my to play tennis the other day, I had planned for today's workout to be mainly tennis.  So, I geared myself up for tennis.  But my weird schedule threw off my eating schedule and I was not hungry when I got home. Once my son got home from school, we got ready to go and by the time we left, I hadn't eaten for almost 5 hours.  Plus, I didn't feel hungry.

We started playing but I was feeling really heavy and sluggish.  About 20 minutes into our play, my legs started to shake and I suddenly felt weak.  I sat down and luckily I had some calorie bars in my bag so I ate those and some salt tablets with water.  A few minutes later, I felt better and we resumed our play.  I had never crashed like that before while playing tennis.  I have always had the energy to play through everything.  But I was like, "WHAT THE???" when my legs started to shake.  I need to be more careful of my eating schedule and exercise schedule and plan accordingly so I don't crash again.

The game was good.  Once I started regaining my energy I started being able to focus more and I was able to see the ball better.  Strokes were more solid and contact sounded strong.  I tried serving some strong balls today and again, no shoulder pain!  Very happy about that.  I can start a more active rehab to get back into shape for my tennis game.

Got my splits and Flow done in the evening.  Nothing out of the ordinary. Hit my mark, and had a solid Flow.

After the tennis, I had torched 960kcals.  Another big day!

8-5-15 HY: P90X3-X3 Yoga + ChaLEAN Extreme-Extreme Abs + Splits.

Very VERY busy day today.  Barely fit in this workout.  The splits came much later in the evening.  Didn't even have the energy to do a Flow.

It was nice to get back to this yoga routine.  It has been several months since I did it last.  Had some balance issues on Half-Moon and Twisting Half-Moon.  And I couldn't even come close to extending my leg on the Toe Bind move, but other than that, everything was really solid.  Felt really good and got a good sweat on.

I had to move quickly so I dove right into abs.  Here also, I got a great burn in my abs and core.  I was happy that I could keep up with Chalene and her crew and maintain all the advanced modifications.

In the end, I was a bit shocked. I torched a good 500+kcals.  A lot more than I was expecting.  Still quite sore from the previous days resistance.

8-4-15 HY: Tennis + ChaLEAN Extreme-Lean Circuit 3 + Splits + Tennis + TCF + Foam Rolling.

8-4-15 HY: Tennis + ChaLEAN Extreme-Lean Circuit 3 + Splits + Tennis + TCF + Foam Rolling.

This day became a lot more than I was expecting it to be when I woke up this morning.

Went to play some morning tennis at school for the first time in over three months.  My playing partner has been nursing a leg and lower back injury and decided it was time to give tennis a try again.  We didn't play a match, but we were sort of testing the waters as far as how much pressure his leg could take especially on his lateral movement.  I was directing the ball back to him as much as possible and he was sort of running me around the court.  The gym we played in was like a sauna.  The sweat was just pouring down me like crazy.  I think I used the phrase, "Sweat is 'RIVERING' down me."  But despite that, it was good to get back on the court.  I think I was a little excited because I went for a little too much too soon and I was about 50/50 with the winners and unforced errors.  After the session, I was being called by the pull up bar, so I succumbed and tried some pull ups and chin ups.  First time in several weeks.  I'm very happy to report that I was able to do 5 single pull ups and chin ups with no pain in my shoulder at all.  And in addition to that, I didn't have any pain while playing tennis either.  VERY HAPPY about that. Rehab can now start.  That session torched well over 900kcals.  I was thinking that that would be my workout for the day, so I was happy to get it over with.

When I got home, I started thinking that this is the last week of ChaLEAN Extreme and I didn't want to disrupt the schedule so I decided to go ahead and do the resistance routine.  But since I did abs for two days in a row, even though today was a regular ab day, I would forgo abs and do them tomorrow.  I was supposed to do Lean Circuit 2 today, but I did 3 instead because 3 has a few core moves that are killer so I could kill two birds with one stone.  The target muscles were Chest, shoulders, core and some legs and back.  My biceps and Triceps were still quite sore, but also I was feeling some soreness in my forearms as well.  I especially felt that soreness when I was doing those test pull ups after tennis.  For the shoulder presses, I started at 14.5kgs, then went down to 12kgs.  For the first set of Chest flies, I used 17kgs, then went down to 14.5kgs on the second set.  I did all the push ups on my toes and they all felt solid.

I went right into splits and on my final round, I felt like I was getting really low.  I was happy about that.  The resistance and splits torched well over 800kcals.  I was like, "YEAH!!! Almost 2000kcals gone!!!  But it wasn't over.

As I was finishing up, my daughter came to me with big eyes and asked, "Daddy, do you want to play tennis with me tonight?"  Even though I was tired, I said, "YEAH!!! Let's Play!!!"  So, I rinsed off and got ready to go to play tennis with my daughter.  She has a good stroke, but she lack control so I have to do a lot of running.  Today, she was aiming for the corners... and hitting them.  My shins were already aching from the morning session, so this was just more pounding.  The stop and go, pivot and dash nature of tennis was even more evident tonight.  I usually take it easy when I play my daughter, but I started to hit out and she was actually returning a lot of my hard shots.  She usually can't handle hard and fast balls, but today, her blocking timing was right on.  Maybe she was translating the ping pong playing style into tennis.  We have had some wicked fast rallies in ping pong recently.  But she got me running around good.  By the end of this tennis session, I torched another 900+kcals.  And my shins were aching like nobody's business.

After a shower and I made half a shake because I was hungry and need some fuel, I was good to go except for my shins.  So, I took about 45 minutes and just rumble rolled my shins out.  It felt so good and painful.  I did the Flow right after that and because my shins felt really weak and sore, I lost balance a few times because I couldn't stop my body's momentum.  But I finally got used to the pain and compensated.  Nailed it down.

In the end, I torched almost 3000kcals today,  That is the biggest one-day calorie burn I've had in a long time.  Definitely yoga day tomorrow... and maybe some abs if I have time.  It's going to be another busy day, but the last one before I go on vacation!!!! Woo Hoo!!!

8-3-15 HY: PiYo-Sculpt + ChaLEAN Extreme-Ab Burner + Splits + TCF.

8-3-15 HY: PiYo-Sculpt + ChaLEAN Extreme-Ab Burner + Splits + TCF.

Started my workout in a somewhat lazy fashion after work. Biceps and Triceps were/are quite sore and in the warm up, I was really feeling it as I was swinging my arms around.  But boy did that stretch feel good.  Short routine today to begin with.  Legs got it first.  I have to keep watching my form or else I will rock back and cheat, taking pressure off the target leg. But I kept up.  Yoga was next, and that felt really good.  The strength section was extremely tough, but I made it tougher because I stayed on my toes all the way through. No knees anymore.  Third slow set was killer, but I didn't go down.  To go along with yesterday's workout and the push ups today, my arms felt rock hard after those.  All around good routine.  I was still feeling good, so even though it is not an ab day, I did a short ab routine.  Got a great burn!

The splits really are starting to come.  I really feel as though I am slowly getting off that plateau ever since I started pushing with my body weight, instead of being over protective of my knees and avoiding too much pain.  I have to push that threshold as well.  The Flow was right on point. Very happy.

In the end, I burned only 370kcals, but it looks like I may do a double workout tomorrow because late morning tennis is scheduled.  Then, I will just do my resistance+ when I get home.  I also hope to get my bike out soon!  Can't wait.

8-02-15 HY:ChaLEAN Extreme-Lean Circuit 1 + 10 Minute Trainer-Abs + Splits + TCF.

8-02-15 HY:ChaLEAN Extreme-Lean Circuit 1 + 10 Minute Trainer-Abs + Splits + TCF.

I was debating on whether or not to do Push Circuit again, and I almost did, but I figured I would just go ahead and keep doing the 3 week cycle with all three circuits to keep the weights in.  I'm still babying my shoulder so this is keeping the strength up, but after this week, I'm full on into my vacation so I may go with P90X just for old times since I'll have more time. Stay tuned for further developments. :-)

Today's target muscles were biceps, Triceps, and legs.  But definitely the arms more.  We switched leg positions at 6 reps several times so the legs often times only got half the workout the arms got.  A few times, the Extreme set was squats, but that was only 3 reps.  My biceps got totally fried today.  I realized that I was cheating on my  bicep curls in that I was lifting the dumbbells in a straighter vertical line than on the elbows pivot arch.  My elbow would go back instead of stay at my sides.  So, I was very wary of my form today and the jury is back, my biceps are weak.  Previous times doing this routine, I was lifting 14.5kgs and even up to 17kgs, but today, with the correct form, I started out at 14.5kgs, then went down to 13.25kgs on the next bicep move, then down to 12kgs on the rest of the bicep moves.  Furthermore, I discovered that my left arm is much weaker than my right.  Not that surprising.  But from the very first bicep move, my left arm totally failed before the 10th rep. on each weight, but on 12kgs, I barely made it to 10 reps on the full curls.  The last move is essentially a half curl and I was fine until the last two reps when my left gave out.  But I got an awesome pump and burn.  For at least 40 minutes after the workout ended, my arm were like jello. Thanks to PiYo, my triceps held up very well. But I was still cautious, and didn't go past 10kgs.  It would have taken me a lot longer to add weight when doing the leg work so I didn't.  I just stayed in the 12kg range.  It was easy,  But when doing the reps that slow, my back also is influenced.  Looking forward to the transformation.  But I will probably go down to 10kgs the next time around.

I went with an old favorite for abs.  I really like this routine a lot. So it was fun to dust it off and do it.  I was really tough, especially getting through that row of plank moves in the middle.  Tried to integrate the RevAbs principle into this routine and do slower and more focused reps.  Burn Burn BURN!!!

The Splits were good.  I really tried to let my body weight push me down, and I held it for as long as I could with that extra push. OUCH!!! but in a good way.

The Flow was again thrown a little off balance at the beginning, but I reeled it in and nailed it in the end.

In the end, I torched a respectable 1191kcals.  Lovely way to start off the week and start a new month.
